Rare Round-Up: Entertainment News of the Week (30/06/2023)
This week was dominated by music announcements which were led by the ongoing summer festival season.
The events from Glastonbury Festival flooded entertainment news as international artists gathered to perform for over 200,000 people over five days.
Main headlines include:
- Lewis Capaldi’s emotional announcement stating a ‘break’ from touring following the loss of his voice during performance.
- Lana Del Ray’s short set after being cut due to her late arrival and the strict midnight curfew.
- A remarkable gathering of volunteers who helped clean the aftermath of performers and visitors.
In other festival news, Kendrick Lamar was announced as a headliner for ‘Hey Neighbour Festival’ in South Africa. Although scheduled to take place in December, fans were electrified by the surprise announcement causing ‘Kendrick’ to trend on Twitter.
The Foo Fighters also caused a social storm as the pre-sale for their upcoming tour went live. Set to visit the UK this June, fans seemed to have trouble gaining access to the pre-sale release which was met with shared frustration and outcry.
Aside from concerts and festivals, Claire Richards (former singer of the renowned group ‘Steps’) announced her second solo album, ‘Euphoria’. In a shared social media post, she writes about the inspiration behind her album stating, "These songs include some well-loved classics and personal faves, paying homage to all the incredible female vocalists who shaped my craft as a singer and an artist".
In other news, the TV and film industry saw a range of re-releases with limited edition sets becoming available for pre-order. Most notably, ‘A Moment of Romance' (1990) was announced with a new 4K restoration.
