Cinemacon 2025: 3 Must-See Movie Previews Now & 3 Highly Anticipated Reveals Coming Soon
With awards season over, it’s time to look to the future of the filmic sphere as summer looms and blockbuster season is just around the corner. What better way to kick things off than the “world’s largest gathering for motion picture theatre” industry? If you’ve noticed a sudden surge in new trailers being released over the last week, then CinemaCon is most likely the reason. If you’re thinking to yourself “Well this sounds interesting, I’d really like to know more!” we here at Rarewaves have you covered. Let’s take a look at some of the new trailers, sneak peaks and other such gems that were sprinkled across this year’s event- with some that you can watch for yourself right now!
3 CinemaCon Reveals That You Can Watch Now!
Superman
Starting with arguably the biggest blockbuster of this or any year, with the return of perhaps the most iconic fictional character of all time. With a new form in that of David Corenswet and under new direction with superhero movie favourite James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad), the upcoming return of the red cape is looking brighter and more colourful than the dark and broody moods that have been prominent in comic book movie over the last two decades.
Following a trailer back in December, Warner Bros revealed a five-minute-long sneak peak at CinemaCon that is now available online, showcasing an injured Superman being dragged to the Fortress of Solitude by his trusted super canine Krypto. We get a look at Krypto, who despite being a super-dog, is still a dog- a dog who just wants to play and take a second to realise that his owner is really not in the mood for it; as well as one of his robot assistants giggling like a schoolgirl. This is looking to be a great time. Out July 11th.
The Naked Gun
Liam Neeson in a little skirt and polka dot underwear? We’ll take it! If you’ve missed the raunchy absurdity of the spoof movies that reigned supreme at the latter end of the previous millennium, then get ready to reopen the Police Squad files! With Neeson taking centre stage in his first proper comedic role, he portrays plays Frank Drebin, Jr- the son of the original trilogy’s protagonist who Leslie Nielsen portrayed in all three of the original Naked Gun movies and the short-lived TV series Police Squad!
The Taken star has been a mainstay in the action and drama genres throughout much of his career, and whilst Neeson has dabbled in comedy before, in an April 2024 interview with ComingSoon.net, Neeson said his comedy skills have "yet to be proven”. So far they’re looking pretty good- we’ll have to wait until August 1st to see just how good!
Megan 2.0
As the AI invasion lurks ever-closer with every ChatGPT update (did you hear that an AI passed the Turing Test?), 2025 will bring us the next chapter in the growing science fiction-horror franchise M3GAN. Following her first outing where the artificially intelligent doll developed self-awareness, went rogue and killed a bunch of people, she’s now back and helping defend the world against another artificially intelligent doll who has developed self-awareness, gone rogue and killed a bunch of people.
For the last two years, Megan’s creator Gemma has launched a successful career as an author and advocate for regulation of artificial intelligence and kept Megan trapped in a small robot in which she hasn’t been able to do any harm. But when her technology is stolen and used to create a military robot called Amelia, the only option is to bring back “this bitch” to stop “that bitch”, as the trailer so articulately put it. It’s also changed its tune a bit from the first movie and pulled a bit of a Terminator 2 shifting from sci-fi horror to sci-fi action, with M3GAN 2.0 looking more fun and bright compared to its predecessor- coming June 27th.
Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning
Despite its name and despite Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt saying “for the last time” in the trailer, there hasn’t been any actual confirmation from Paramount or Cruise himself that this is in fact the final entry in the Mission Impossible franchise. At 62 years of age, Tom Cruise has shown zero signs of slowing down his career whether that be acting or biking off cliffs doing his own death-defying stunts.
The trailer, first revealed at CinemaCon and now available to view online, showcased more of said stunts that director Christopher McQuarrie says will “melt your brain.” For example clinging to the wing of a 1930s Boeing Stearman biplane at 10,000 feet in the air. Plot details are still thin but revolve around Ethan Hunt and his IMF team members, who confront the Entity, a rogue artificial intelligence, which poses a global threat. There are also plenty of nods to previous instalments in the franchise, so we’ll see how it all culminates in the final reckoning on May 21st…?!
3 CinemaCon Reveals That We’re Excited To See!
Wicked: For Good
After Wicked (Part 1) took over the world for a little bit with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda (“the good witch”) and Elphaba (“the wicked witch”) respectively, we got a new look at the upcoming sequel. Or at least some people did. It hasn’t been made public yet, but there has been plenty of buzz around the trailer’s debut as CinemaCon- with reactions calling it “dazzling” and “intriguing.” According to multiple reports, the clip introduced classic Wizard of Oz characters Dorothy, the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow.
As of yet, there is no confirmation as to when the trailer will go live for the general public, but with the film itself is set for a November 21st release date, we can only hope that it’ll be soon, especially with Gizmodo stating that “it was a trailer filled with lots of very cool and intriguing moments.” We can’t wait to see what’s in store for November 21st!
Final Destination: Bloodlines
If you grew up during a certain era, you might have had irrational fears of meeting your untimely doom in random ways, and you can probably thank the Final Destination movies for it. Its last entry released back in 2009, the franchise got its fame from constantly finding increasingly far-fetched and inventive, not to mention violent ways to kill off its characters. And based on what we’ve heard from the footage unveiled of its latest entry subtitled Bloodlines, the series looks ready to traumatise another generation.
Whilst we can’t yet see the footage that has been called the grossest Final Destination kill ever, which we understand involves a vending machine in a hospital. You can find pretty full descriptions of the scene from those who were in attendance, and a still from said scene was released yesterday by Collider. They describe what they’ve seen of the film to have a darkly comedic age in contrast with previous entries, so while it’ll be familiar to fans of the series and still undoubtedly Final Destination, there is some freshness here too, which is very welcome. The film is out next month- on May 16th- so even if this footage isn’t released, we won’t have to wait long to see it in its entirety!
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel will not be outdone in 2025, especially not by their former colleague James Gunn! But in the ever-conversating conversation of Marvel vs DC, this year the only winners are the movie-going public, because not only do we get something super but we also get something fantastic. I never miss a good pun opportunity.
When it comes to the footage revealed by Marvel Studios to the attendees at CinemaCon, the biggest piece of news is of course iconic villain the Silver Surfer (the Shalla-Bal incarnation of the character, played by Julia Garner). Mark Pacis of Nerd Reactor gave a description of the scene, saying that “the world sees the Fantastic Four as heroes—and maybe even saviours.” As they’re celebrating a major life update with Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm being pregnant, things take a dark turn with the arrival of the Silver Surfer, and Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) struggles with the guilt of the team’s space exploration possibly triggering the coming of Galactus.
The film is out on July 25th- just two weeks after Superman- so we hope that we’ll get to see this sneak peek soon!
With the slew of blockbusters coming this summer, and many more exciting movies for the rest of 2025- it’s certainly shaping up to be a much busier year for movie fans than 2024! There are so many more that we could’ve mentioned like Avatar: Fire and Ash, Predator: Badlands and heck even The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (although we all know that the 2004 movie is the real SpongeBob movie). Do let us know what you’re most looking forward to this year!
