Woody Allen
Born Allan Stewart Konigsberg in Brooklyn, he began as a comedy writer and stand-up comic before transitioning to filmmaking in the 1960s. Allen’s early work, like Take the Money and Run and Sleeper, showcased his talent for absurdist humor, while Annie Hall (1977) marked a shift toward more sophisticated storytelling, earning him Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
Over the years, Allen has produced a remarkable body of work, directing more than 50 films, including Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Midnight in Paris. Known for his intellectual humor, neurotic characters, and explorations of love, morality, and mortality, Allen has left a profound mark on American cinema. His films often feature ensemble casts, jazz-infused soundtracks, and New York City as a central character.
His prolific output, wit, and distinct voice have earned him a place among the most significant and influential filmmakers of the 20th and early 21st centuries.
