From primitive stone shelters to bold sculptural forms, hundreds of these open-access cabins are scattered across the high alpine landscape. In the first two volumes, they present 50 of the most distinctive cabins in the Alps. Alongside practical detail and cultural context, they reflect on the stories etched into each shelter: of shepherds, mountaineers, architects and the communities who shaped and maintain them. Whether you're a mountain dreamer, hut enthusiast, hiker or mountaineer, Cabin Wild is both a celebration of bivouac culture and an invitation to explore these shelters with humility, imagination and respect. Volume One journeys through the Western Alps, from Val Maira to Mont Blanc, with huts featured in the Écrins, Belledonne, Bauges and the Mont Cenis massif on the Franco-Italian border.
