Homeboy Sandman wuchs in Queens, New York auf und ist der Sohn eines Boxers aus der Dominikanischen Republik. Sandman tauchte 2007 in der Szene auf und wurde innerhalb des ersten Jahres bereits vonm populärsten Hip Hop Magazin XXL als Ausnahmekönner gepriesen. Sein erstes Album erschien 2010 auf dem kleinen New Yorker Label High Water Music, bevor er sein Debüt beim renommierten Westcoast Label Stones Throw von Peanut Butter Wolf feiern kann. Nach zwei EPs zum Aufwärmen erscheint mit "First Of A Living Breed" nun sein von Oh No, Oddisee, J57, Jonwayne, rthentic RTNC, und anderen produziertes zweites Studioalbum.
