ABOUT THE ARTIST
With her fourteenth album, Anouk is exploring new territory. The album titled Deena & Jim has a rich orchestral sound with arrangements by Martin Gjerstad, Anouk’s long-time writing partner. The twelve compositions and the accompanying interludes, intros and outros were played by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. “Consider this record a love letter to those in despair… I just hope some of my words and music will touch your heart.” Anouk wanted to make a cinematic record, giving it the atmosphere of an epic movie. “Time should disappear when you listen to it.” Deena & Jim are the protagonists conceived by Anouk in a feature-length life story. Many will recognize themselves in the characters ‘cause anyone has been a Deena or a Jim. Including Anouk herself. “The whole record is super relatable; the things I sing about, I also see happening in relationships around me. It teaches you not to take anything for granted. I think a lot of people can take hope from this record. Because you can always attack what bothers you. And you shouldn’t wait too long to do that.” On the cover, what more fitting than the image of Anouk kissing her great love Dominique. The intimate photo was taken by Erwin Olaf and reflects the phase that, after turbulent years, has finally arrived for Anouk. “Now the good years are here, my life feels really peaceful and safe at the moment,” she said. Deena & Jim is available as a limited edition on white coloured vinyl and contains a unique photoprint on side D (no music). The 2LP is housed in a gatefold sleeve and includes an insert with lyrics.
