The first of her self-titled albums, Kylie Minogue is the pop diva's first album after parting company with PWL and the Hit Factory. This album sees Kylie dabble in the dance genre, collaborating with the likes of M-People and the Pet Shop Boys as Kylie uses herself as a catalyst. Her voice has improved since the days of "I Should Be So Lucky", and is effectively showcased on stand out track and number two hit "Confide In Me", produced by ultra-cool dance duo Brothers in Rhythm. Kylie also tests her vocal limits on "Dangerous Game" and breaks new musical ground on the funky "If I Was Your Lover". However, despite some successful moments, the end result is unfortunately a mediocre offering. Kylie is clearly talented, but it seems--much as she would hesitate to admit it--that the people who really knew how to get the best from her were Stock, Aitken and Waterman. --Ronita Dutta
