A highlight of the tourist route through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Baden-Württemberg is the Hohenstaufen: More than 800 years ago, the mountain was chosen as the ancestral seat of the Swabian noble family. An exhibition on the history of the Staufers at the foot of the mountain gives a deeper insight into the Staufer period. The Roman Limes, added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005, is 550 km long and the longest archaeological monument after the Great Wall of China. The highly developed culture of the Romans met barbarian Germania on the border, which was secured with forts, watchtowers, walls and palisades.
