Over 5000 VAB (French Véhicule de l'Avant Blindé = VAB / armored vehicle front) are used in 14 countries on all continents. Traditionally built as a 4x4 VAB (only version used by the French army) is often sold in the 6x6 version in export. Better cross-country ability is the reason for this choice of African states such as Morocco or the Middle East. This vehicle has been widely used in combat and to restore and maintain peace, especially within the framework of the UN and NATO. In Bosnia, where 200 to 400 VAB were constantly present, the availability rate was higher than 90%, while maintenance was limited to common procedures. A motor with 300 HP and an automatic transmission allow the VAB a weight of 16 tons. As on the 4x4, numerous improvements have been made: a tyre inflation and drain system, reinforced configuration, steering and dashboard modernized.
