"Like its glorious predecessor of the Xsara, the Citroën C4 WRC was equipped with all-wheel drive, a 2-litre turbo engine and a transverse six-speed transmission. The special feature of the C4 WRC is its length of 4.20 m, with which it exceeds the Xsara, so that its width could be widened from 1.77 to 1.80 m according to regulations. This change theoretically gave it better cornering stability. As required by the regulations, the auxiliary electronics for the driver had been reduced and was now identical to that of the Xsara in the 2006 configuration. Also as part of the cost reduction required by the regulations, the C4 WRC assemblies, such as the engine, transmission, front and rear axle drives as well as the balance gear, the shock absorbers had to be more reliable and designed for a longer service life. The test vehicle was used to test the technology and for recruitment drives and was unglued."
