Rehabilitated

During a US Tour in 1979, Joe Perry left Aerosmith after a dispute with Steven Tyler. Two years later, while recording their seventh studio album Rock In A Hard Place , Brad Whitford also departed the band. The split would not last long, however, by 1984 both Whitford and Perry were welcomed back into the fold, and the following year they began working on a new studio album, Done With Mirrors . The album received mixed reviews and only reached a disappointing number thirty-six on the Billboard charts. Yet the band were together again, and with the line-up restored they would soon revive their flagging career. A crucial first step was Steven Tyler completing drug rehab in 86, when he emerged clean, the rest of the band pledged to follow suit. Their subsequent album, Permanent Vacation , released in August, 1987, saw the band refreshed and revitalised. Propelling Aerosmith back into the top twenty of the Billboard charts (peaking at #11), it would go on to sell over 6 million copies worldwide and launch Aerosmith into a dominant era as one of the world s biggest bands. This important concert captures the band at the crucial turning point in their career. Broadcast live by WBCN from their home state of Massachusetts, it comes just a few weeks before the recording of walk this way, and shows the band in energetic form as they move on from Done With Mirrors through rehab, and onwards towards their greatest success yet.
