The conference \u003ci\u003eLife in Palmyra, Life for Palmyra\u003c\/i\u003e, which brought together an international group of more than thirty scholars, and the publication, which is the result of this meeting, became a tribute to Khaled al-As?ad and his life’s work. \u003cbr\u003eThe papers offered here cover a wide range of topics related to Palmyra and its vicinity, spanning a period from the Paleolithic to the Byzantine. Supplementing the volume are some personal messages and reflections, and the score and a recording of \u003ci\u003eTadmor\u003c\/i\u003e, a sonata for viola and violoncello composed specially for this occasion. \u003cbr\u003eAlso included in this volume is the text of the \u003ci\u003eWarsaw Declaration\u003c\/i\u003e, passed unanimously by members of a round table organized \u003ci\u003ead hoc\u003c\/i\u003e at the conference, which coincided with the liberation of Palmyra from ISIS in March 2016.
