This volume traces the background in Greek culture and the writings of Plato of a daring proposal presented by Aristotle, that \u003ci\u003escholê\u003c\/i\u003e is a principle for political organization. The concept of \u003ci\u003escholê \u003c\/i\u003eby and large did not survive Aristotle.
