In the second half of the fifties the United States had Elvis, Buddy Holly and Little Richard, they had Rock 'n Roll! Cliff Richard had to become the U.K.'s answer to this U.S. rock idols. The first album titled "Cliff" contains cover versions of Willie Dixon's "My Babe", Roy Orbison's "Down The Line", Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes", Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day" Phil Spector's "Spanish Harlem" and Cliffs first single "Move It" which went No. 2 on the U.K. charts, (and credited by John Lennon as the first British rock record). Cliff Richard was backed by Hank Marvin & Bruce Welch' instrumental group "The Shadows".
