Side trips to Japan, war zone visitations, imaginary conversations with the dead, shimmering ancient cities, dust, determination, broken records, love lost and found, jazz longings, a leaning towards Judaism - it's all reflected in this personal work. Many of today's leading composers are represented here, including five premier recordings, all impeccably played with Carmichael's lush tone. Classically trained, she has performed with orchestras such as the San Francisco Symphony, with string quartets such as Del Sol, and was on the California Arts Council Roster as a soloist. However, at heart she is an adventurer, and her musical passions have always gravitated toward the experimental, personal and contemporary. Driven by curiosity, her approach centers on the role of imagination in sound. For the last decade she has specialized in bass clarinet, and was named a Selmer Artist in 2011. Solo and chamber music recital appearances include Merkin Hall (New York), the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Eesti Concerts (Tallinn, Estonia), Musique Démesurées (Clermont-Ferrand, France), the American Academy (Rome), Tokyo Wonder Site (Japan), The American Music Festival (Sacramento, CA), Energy Museum at Bilgi University (Istanbul, Turkey), and Campus Musick (Klagenfurt, Austria). Carmichael has worked with many composers and performed with contemporary ensembles such as MusikFabrik and Ensemble MAE, having performed at festivals in the Berlin Philharmonie, and MaertzMusik in the Berlin Festspele. With her duo partner Naomi Sato (sho and saxophones) she performs as Duo X; together they won the performance prize at the 2010 Tokyo Wonder Site's Experimental Sound, Art and Performance Festival. In The Netherlands, Carmichael works with a network of artists and musicians as part of Radio Kootwijk Live. Technology has been a long-term interest, and Ms. Carmichael is often found using wireless controllers, and developing work with sensors. In 2011 she was a participant in the SABRe (Sensor Augmented Bass Clarinet Research) symposium at the Zurich University of the Arts, presenting a lecture-demonstration 'Body Gesture as a Musical Gesture Generator: a potential Theatrical Music Application of Sensor Technology\". She was a visiting research fellow at University of Southampton from 2008-10, and has also lectured at many universities. Broadcast credits include being featured on Austrian National Radio, Ö1, AVRO and Concertzender in The Netherlands, WQXR in NYC, KPFA in the Bay Area. She appears on recordings on CRI, Albany, Phonector, MegaDisc, Ponk, Minimax Records, AK Muzik. \"TRACE\" on Karnatic Lab Records is her first solo recording. Ms. Carmichael graduated from the University of Michigan School of Music and the Amsterdam Conservatory, and her main teachers were Richard MacDowell, Fred Ormand, Rosario Mazzeo, and Harry Sparnaay.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Rarewaves","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":40636309307489,"sku":"8712618000793","price":13.19,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0092\/7504\/8033\/products\/e21e71637aca9b317a9b8ad510a7859b.jpg?v=1672939207","url":"https:\/\/www.rarewaves.com\/products\/8712618000793-trace","provider":"Rarewaves.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
