J. Johnson, and many other superstars of the Jazz scene of the times.

Stan Getz, born Stanley Gayetzsky (1927 – 1991), was one of the most influential and idiosyncratic saxophonists in Jazz. In 1943, barely sixteen years old, he already played with the likes of Jack Teagarden, Nat “King” Cole, Lionel Hampton, Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey, and Woody Herman; he stayed in Herman’s Herd until 1949. Following that, Getz formed his own group and also became an accompanist for stars like Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughan. He also gained an incredible reputation during his numerous tours with “Jazz At The Philharmonic”.
His biggest international success came with his Bossa Nova recordings, for instance with guitarist Charlie Byrd, many of which can be found in this box-set. Among the other “sidemen” playing with Getz on these recordings are legends like Gerry Mulligan, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, or J. J. Johnson.
The man they called “The Sound” was internationally renowned well into the 1980s, which also showed in the many awards he won: Stan Getz was awarded no less than eleven Grammys during the course of his career.
