At the request of filmmaker José Giovanni, de Roubaix found connections between the barrel organ and synthesizers, complemented by unusual effects from rattles, files, and springs. The theme of 'La Scoumoune' would emancipate itself from the film, living its own life as a jingle or advertising tune, and regularly sampled by artists from the new world, rappers, and DJs.
