Lee Ermey. He breaks them all down then sets about building them back up as mean killing machines. The story centres on Private Joker (Mathew Modine) who is just trying to get through the war. After the brutal events of the training the recruits move out to the action in Vietnam, where things are unlike anything they have ever seen before. The whole film was shot in England as Kubrick refused to fly and insisted on re-creating Vietnam in the London docklands. This is a powerful film that has amazing performances especially from Ermey as the sergeant who seems to take pride in finding new and ingenious ways to insult and torment his trainees.
