The two were "discovered" while busking in Covent Garden, London and, after singing at the 2001 FA Cup Final in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, were quickly signed to Sony Classics. The football connection doesn't end there: the disc's first track, an arrangement of "One Fine Day" from Puccini's Madama Butterfly , was chosen by ITV1 as the theme tune for its World Cup 2002 coverage. Canny timing--the album was released as the World Cup began in Japan. The remainder of Beyond Imagination consists largely of arrangements of popular classical pieces for the two singers. Works as diverse as Grieg's Piano Concerto, Dvorák's "New World" Symphony, Orff's Carmina Burana and Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite are given the OperaBabes treatment. Indeed the only piece originally composed for soprano and mezzo is that old standard, the Flower Duet from Delibes' opera Lakmé . The OperaBabes are unlikely gain praise from opera lovers, but their innovative and slickly-produced approach to the classics will appeal to fans of crossover artists such as Russell Watson, Charlotte Church and Andrea Bocelli. -- Rebecca Agnew

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0092/7504/8033/files/orig_10993107_29473308_20260703080804.jpg?v=1783111132
