Thankfully, they persisted and this, a self-titled compilation of the finest moments from their two self-released albums, clearly shows why. The band quite evidently loves what they do. Inspired by all that's good in stoner music, they mix and match genres with little regard for how things are supposed to be. Hence the opening "Santa Ana River Delta Blues" rises from a droning garage riff to a near-psychedelic freak-out: "Hidin' in My Kitchen" is a trashy reggae with crazy, echoing effects (there's more dub hidden after six minutes of the final track): "I Like Sleepin'" is a purposefully dumb power pop, while the closing "Poor Days" is a downbeat folk, highly atmospheric, like some manically depressed relative of Chris Isaak. Both playful and inventive, the album's held together by a restless energy that sees all seven members pulling their weight, snatches of guitar, organ and clattering percussion constantly adding interest where many bands would simply stick to the groove. God is in the details, they say. Wiskey Biscuit are a good-time band of considerable depth. --Dominic Wills

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0092/7504/8033/files/orig_1498921_1419395_jpg_cbc27e2d-acfd-4ebd-9d41-52fd6684b070.jpg?v=1760441819
