These tunes have been designed for authentic period dancing: taken from original manuscripts, recorded on period instruments, and test-danced by experienced dancers. The cotillion was the most popular fashionable dance of the late 18th century in England. Giovanni Gallini was born in Florence and made his career as a dancer, choreographer and impresario in London. The dances in this album are taken from his work 'Critical Observations on the Art of Dancing' published in 1770.
