Spanning genres and altering moods, these songs can rock with force and then pivot back to hauntingly honest storytelling while you blink. The trio uses it's instruments and voices as pursuit vehicles in search of answers to the questions walking constantly astride us, our second shadows. John Daly (guitar, vocals) has been writing and performing original music for more than a decade in Vermont. The Trio has honed and focused John's music and performance, accentuating dynamics and delivery. John's writing is both subtle and straightforward. Musical hooks and haunting melodies invite the ear to explore the layers of sounds and feelings. John's lyrics have been described as containing a 'startling juxtaposition of words and images,' yet 'with coherent flow that culminates in a more powerful punch.' Alongside all that he brings to bear as a singer\/songwriter, John Daly is a father, a step-father and an aural piano tuner. Adam Tarmy (bass) is self-taught and started playing the guitar at age 10. His musical career began in high school, playing guitar in a suburban Boston hardcore band. After graduation, Adam left the 'burbs for the musical wonderland that was 1990's Burlington, VT. During semester break sophomore year, Adam \"confiscated\" his younger sister's Fender bass and amp and has yet to look back. Adam's unique playing style draws from his experiences in the Burlington scene, which was at the time overflowing with improvisational music of all brands. While rehearsing with some friends at the (now defunct) Kennel Studios in South Burlington, Adam was asked to fill in for the bass player of the regionally popular hip-hop\/metal band Disfunktion. This gave him the opportunity to return to his \"hardcore\" roots as well as sharpen his live playing chops with frequent gigs throughout New England. In the new Millennium he has played in a variety of jam\/funk\/reggae projects. Adam met John in 2012 and after preliminary rehearsals, he asked his old friend Dennis to join them. The synergy was evident and the rest is history.in the Trio, Adam aspires to provide a crisp and clean low end that will float John's musical imagery on a sea of deep frequency waves. Dennis Derryberry (guitar, vocals) was actually considering phasing out the flatpick in favor of a fingerstyle acoustic approach when suddenly the John Daly Trio materialized at the end of 2012, promptly snapping Dennis back to the tried-and-true as he found his way into the material. In contrast to his ongoing solo efforts and roles in other combos over time, playing in the John Daly Trio offers Dennis a nice opportunity to take a half-step back from the front of the stage and focus on two of his favorite elements of sound: lead guitar and harmony vocals. The robust musical foundations of John's songs - and the rhythmic stability of John's and Adam's playing - enable and encourage Dennis to be highly expressive within the music. In principle, Dennis maintains delusions of remaining understated.
