Of particular interest here is the piano used on these CDs. World renowned early piano specialist John Khouri, plays a beautiful Viennese grand piano made ca. 1828 by Joseph Bohm which has seven pedals and a six and a half octave range, a perfect fit for these works of Beethoven's last period of composition. One of the most exciting performances here is of the mighty 'Hammerklavier' Sonata Op 106, played close to the composer's daunting metronome marks. The other works on these CDs receive fresh and original performances helped by the unique sound of the period piano.
