The disc includes 13 minutes of conversation between the two men in which they discuss the proposition. There is some concern about the constant time-changes but the overall leisurely pace of the piece nullifies any risk. True, the energico movement nudges the listener awake but on the whole the work is as sleepy as its title. Indeed the conversation turns out to be the liveliest thing on the disc. The piano concerto is coupled with the tone poem Autumn Gardens whose three somnolent movements ooze hazily into one. The running semiquavers which course through most of the work are indistinct and the steady prominent chords above them have a hypnotic effect. The work intensifies as it progresses but there is too little contrast between the movements' pastel shades and when the tubular bells sound at the end of the work, they are like door-chimes announcing the arrival of one's taxi.
