Even today members of groups like Guided By Voices and Superchunk are quick to acknowledge their admiration for these records, and in my own travels the Mice are one Cleveland band that fans and musicians are quick to ask about. There is a certain mystery about them since they broke up just as they were taking off, not to mention Bills not infrequent sabbaticals from playing music. Once in 1990 or so I ran into him performing acoustic at a suburban coffee shop to a tiny, random audience one midafternoon. Although he performed like this regularly, nobody around town had any idea he was doing it, let alone where or when perhaps he told friends, but he seemed to be avoiding the limelight at all costs. But to hear his voice in that small room so clear, immediate, his stunning pitch control and natural gifts in full flower was one of those perfect musical moments Ill never forget.

"Scooter" was also issued in the UK as a 12 song LP on the What Goes On label with songs taken from both releases. Just as the group was about to embark on a European tour, they disbanded, citing artistic differences and leaving a second album half finished in the process. About ten years later, Bill resurfaced with two solo albums on the Spinart label which were much loved, but Bill became disillusioned with music again and disappeared. He has not played music since that time but is now considering becoming active again.
