The goal was to create instrumental music using a layered, multiple guitar format, but still working within a rock context, with a drummer and one or two bass players. The result is a dense, sometimes noisy, rock band with academic leanings at times. But at the core of the sound, there is a dedication to finding the ultimate riff, or drone part that can happen with multiple guitars and resulting fun harmonic accidents. The best aspect of the sound is watching or listening to this music and hearing parts that no one is actually playing, but that just happen from the interplay of the instruments. TONE have played many shows in the DC area supporting touring acts such as The Jesus Lizard, godspeedyoublackemperor, Stereolab, Mercury Rev, Luna, Man or Astroman to name a few and have ventured around the east coast a bit as well. The currently live line up includes two drummers.
