Thankfully, the last album Motörhead issued for the Bronze Records label is still as rude as it ever was and like a pair of trusty old boots; it still feels great to put on, they’ll never trip you up and the cobbler will always be happy to see you should you pick-up a nail!It was the ‘Best Of’ compiled by Lemmy himself and as such, he captures all the highlights of the band’s almost first decade. From the classic triumvirate of Kilmister / Clarke / Taylor comes the perennial likes of ‘Ace Of Spades’, ‘Bomber’, ‘Overkill’, ‘(We Are) The Road Crew’ and ‘Iron Fist’. Through that awkward but none the less intriguing one year with Brian Robertson came ‘Shine’ and ‘Dancing On Your Grave’. And with the band now as a quartet in 1984 and to keep the release fresh for the kids, Lemmy insisted on recording no less than six new tracks for the set and we were treated for the first time on No Remorse to ‘Killed By Death’, ‘Snaggletooth’, ‘Steal Your Face’, ‘Locomotive’ and two versions of ‘Under The Knife’. Also thrown into the primeval soup are the results of no less than two collaborations with outside artists, namely Girlschool for the ‘Please Don’t Touch’ and ‘Emergency’ tracks, and the Plasmatics with Wendy O. Williams for the controversial ‘Stand By Your Man’, ‘No Class’ and ‘Masterplan’ all recorded during the same session that ultimately saw the departure of ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke. No Remorse has been through a number of variations over the years with certain tracks added and taken away according to the format at the time. The definitive version however, must surely be the double LP in a real leather sleeve with inner sleeve-notes by then Kerrang! journalist, Malcolm Dome. In honour of this release this 2010 Deluxe Edition replicates this version by restoring Malcolm’s sleeve-notes, replicating the ‘leather-look’ sleeve and also re-setting some of the photos that have been lost over the years. “Damned if you don’t”!
