This double album was recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2001, with liner notes by Keith Jarrett himself.

The Montreux Festival performance is - in terms of the musical range addressed - one of the most comprehensive in the discography of Jarrett/Peacock/DeJohnette. One of its biggest surprises is the inclusion of two Fats Waller tunes, absolutely delightful interpretations of "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Honeysuckle Rose" which close and open the two halves of the set. It's rare indeed to hear Jarrett playing out of the post-stride styles of the 1930s, and with tremendous rhythmic drive. The mood is extended On "You Took Advantage Of Me", written originally for Rodgers & Hart's 1928 show `Present Arms'. No less exhilarating is a terrific version of Thelonious Monk's "Straight, No Chaser" that catapults toward free expression in its final moments.

But the whole double album feels like a celebration. Cheered on by a capacity audience, the trio are in absolutely top form and return to the stage for two encores: a high-flying "On Green Dolphin Street" and a beautiful, pellucid account of the ballad "Only The Lonely". The direct and outgoing nature of 'My Foolish Heart' will likely make it one of the best-loved recordings of the group colloquially referred to as the Standards Trio.

Personnel:
Keith Jarrett - (piano), Gary Peacock - (double-bass), Jack DeJohnette - (drums)

REVIEW
(4 stars) Jarrett turns the clock back by launching into some rollicking Fats Waller and proceeds to flaunt his ragtime and stride chops.
-- The Times, (John Bungey), November 24, 2007

(4 stars) The trio vibrantly deconstruct a seminal mix of modern jazz classics and songbook standards.in particularly buoyant mood. -- Financial Times, (Mike Hobart), December 15, 2007

(4 stars) There's a joyful bounce about much of this music.emphasises how much invention continues to be at this long-standing trio's fingertips.
-- The Guardian, (John Fordham), November 2, 2007

(4 stars) This version of 'On Green Dolphin Street' is indispensable, as is this set.a benchmark of excellence in jazz. -- Jazzwise, (Stuart Nicholson), December 2007/January 2008
