The real mark of a new band though lies in their capacity to create a larger entire listening experience i.e. a debut album. For Tragedy Rocks, vocalist Davey Macmanus & Co have given it their best shot. On first listen theres a sense of gutsy bravado underlying the songs that lives up to the promise of their hit singles, though on closer inspection the songs disappear into vapidity. The problem seems to lie in the bands inability to suspend disbelief over repeated listens. Unlike the outfit theyve been most compared to, The Flaming Lips, The Crimea just dont offer the requisite drama and attitude. Their posturing seems like exactly that posturing, all trousers and no action. Despite a genuine effort and some arresting moments, Tragedy Rocks simply fails to convince. --Paul Sullivan

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0092/7504/8033/files/orig_12876705_19689159_20241209050558.jpg?v=1733768182
