Und so klingt die neue U2 denn auch eher wie ein musikalischer Supermarkt der Bleeps \u0026amp; Clonks. Ob wohl daher das Thema für die kommende Tour stammt? Wie dem auch sei: hier hat man viel zu tief in die Trickkiste gegriffen. Perverse, schweinische, jaulende und quietschende Gitarrensounds - bis zur Unkenntlichkeit verzerrt und kaum mehr als solche zu erkennen - dominieren das Bild. Obendrein wird multipliziert, was das Zeug hält, frei nach der Devise \"Immer feste Druff\". Andererseits gab man sich beim Abmischen der Rhythmusgruppe - bewußt oder nicht - weniger Mühe, so daß alles ziemlich matschig und wirr klingt. Der Baß wummert körperlos über dem percussiven Brei aus übersteuerten Zimbeln und dumpfen Beats. Allerdings: die Stücke sind wieder als solche zu erkennen. Wurde auf dem Schnellschuß \"Zooropa\" diesbezüglich fragmentiert und experimentiert, was das Zeug hält, hat man sich diesmal am Riemen gerissen und präsentiert wieder memorable Melodien, Hooks und Refrains. Man merkt dem Album an, daß Bono \u0026amp; Co. mal so richtig subversiv zeigen wollten, daß man trotz Media-Overkill doch nicht so richtig zum Corporate-Rock gehört.
