Auch mit Collected legt die 1990 in Bristol gegründete Band keine offizielle Werkschau vor, und doch zieht das Trio ein gelungenes Zwischenresümee. Für Quereinsteiger bietet die CD eine exzellente Zusammenstellung mit Material aus allen Phasen der britischen TripHop-Pioniere. Erfreulich ist, dass sich Massive Attack auf ihre hypnotischen Tracks wie Karmacoma  (mit Tricky als Gast-Sänger) und Angel, das zauberhafte Teardrop und natürlich die revolutionären Club-Hits Unfinished Sympathy und das auf ein Billy-Cobham-Sample basierende Safe From Harm konzentrieren. Dafür verzichten die aus dem Künstler-Kollektiv The Wild Bunch hervorgegangenen Massive Attack auf die dunklen, ätherischen und schleppenden Tracks. Die nahmen nach dem Meisterwerk Blue Lines und der nicht minder begeisternden Platte Protection leider verstärkt Räume ein. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Massive-Attack-Fans der ersten Stunde finden - abgesehen von der Single Live With Me (mit Terry Callier) - kein neues Material. Deswegen empfiehlt sich der Griff zur Spezial-Ausgabe, die eine Fülle an Bonus-Bonbons enthält. Neben sämtlichen hochästhetischen Videoclips, die je von der Band in Auftrag gegeben wurden, sind es die zehn Extra-Songs, die die Dual Disc zum Muss machen. Massive Attack, die sich 1991 wegen der US-Invasion in den Irak kurzfristig in Massive umbenannten, zeigen sich dabei von ganz unterschiedlichen Seiten. Das mondäne False Flags entstand in einem Pariser Jazz Club. Incantations heißt auf 100th Window Everywhen und wurde auf dem Wege der Umbenennung von digitalen Elementen entschlackt. Silent Spring mit Liz Frazer von den Cocteau Twins, und ist laut Massive Attack noch eine Rohversion. Bullet Boy sowie Danny The Dog sind zwei Soundtrackarbeiten zu den gleichnamigen Filmen, I Want You brachte die Briten mit Madonna, Small Time Shoot Em Up mit Damon Albarn (Blur) zusammen. Ganz entzückend ist das verhuschte Joy Luck Club, eine Liebeserklärung an Island, gesungen von der weitgehend unbekannten Oom-Frontfrau Debbie Clare. Der vielleicht beste Track aber heißt I Against I, eine Coverversion des Reggae-meets-Hardcore-Klassikers der Bad Brains. Den reißen Massive Attack zusammen mit dem Rapper Mos Def aus dem alten musikalischen Umfeld, und lassen nicht die Gitarren sondern digitalen Beats sprechen.
