Stuck in Marseilles, he meets a young woman desperate to find her missing husband - the very man he's impersonating.

REVIEW
Franz Rogowski stars as Georg, a German in Paris during an increasingly tense and violent occupation. Seghers book was released in 1944 and set in 1942, so the story at that time was about the Nazis, but Petzold boldly chooses to update the story to modern times without really clarifying the threat. We just know that people are being rounded up and the country is increasingly unsafe. Before we ve even seen the title card, police sirens have been heard three times. There s a sense of dread and urgency that s amplified by leaving the threat as undefined as active police cars in the street and enhanced discussion of things like travel papers. Especially with our current state of the world and its threats of violence amidst increased polarization, the themes of Transit have added resonance by making this a 10s story instead of a 40s one. In Paris, Georg is asked to take two pieces of correspondence to a writer named Weidel. When Georg gets to the hotel, he finds a bathroom covered in the blood of the man he was supposed to meet, who has committed suicide. He takes the writer's belongings and jumps a train with a man named Heinz who has been injured. The two are headed to Marseilles to hop a boat to Mexico, where they might be safe, but Heinz dies on the journey. Two dead men will shape Georg s future, guiding him into the lives they left behind. - Brian Tallerico (4/4 Stars) --https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/transit-2019

The past and present are a terrifying blur in Transit, a brilliant allegory set in France that opens amid wailing police sirens. The solitary man in a cafe sipping espresso doesn t flinch. He is soon joined by a second man who gives him a name: Georg. Why are you still here, the second man asks, Paris is being sealed off. In urgent tones, they discuss visas, danger, money. Georg agrees to deliver two letters and then steps into streets filled with jackboots and terror, a world in which time seems to have folded in on itself. An existential thriller about loss, trauma, statelessness and historical amnesia, Transit is the latest from the German director Christian Petzold, an electrifying, original filmmaker. Petzold is likely best known in the United States for Barbara, a slow-burning drama about an East German doctor who, after a failed attempt to go to the West, decides to stay. In Barbara, to voluntarily remain in a totalitarian dictatorship is an ethical choice, a form of resistance. There are no valorous choices in Transit, where leaving is a high-stakes necessity for Georg and the desperate, panicked refugees around him. To stay is to die. - Manohla Dargis --https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/28/movies/transit-review.html

Set in the Parisian publishing world, an editor and an author find themselves in over their heads as they cope with a mid-life crisis, the changing industry and their wives.

Nymphomaniac Vol I. & Vol II. On the eve of World War I. The story of the children and teenagers of a choir run by the village schoolteacher, and their families: the baron, the steward, the pastor, the doctor, the midwife, the tenant farmers. Strange accidents occur and gradually take on the character of a punishment ritual. Who is behind it all?

AMAZON REVIEW
Like an ice-cold shower, Michael Haneke's solemn and sobering films are more often good for the soul than a guaranteed pleasure. While not as confrontational as his previous film Funny Games, Haneke's The White Ribbon--an account of sinister events in a rural German village in 1913--offers no compromises to the audience, but creates an unsolvable, unsettling riddle meant as a remedy to the disposable violence of conventional cinema. The morality of the village is safeguarded by three powerful disciplinarians: a doctor, a pastor and a baron, each privately abusive in different ways. Their order is threatened by a series of local incidents ranging from apparent accidents to acts of callous sabotage and vicious cruelty. The village's creepy-looking children are somehow involved; in 20 years, the narrator reflects, the same kids will participate in the rise of Nazi Germany, and a link is implied between the rise of fascism and a generation's moral hypocrisy and authoritarianism. But nothing is confirmed and no-one is accused. Neither is the audience off the hook: we're complicit in the generalized evil at the heart of The White Ribbon for expecting the kind of palatable violence that's carried out by unambiguous villains. Haneke gives us no such consolation. To borrow Al Pacino's great lines from Scarface: we're not allowed to point our fingers and say 'that's the bad guy', however much we need to. --Leo Batchelor

Andrea Arnold writes and directs this tale of fatal attraction which won the Alexander Korda Award for Outstanding British Film of the Year at the 2010 BAFTA Awards. 15-year-old Mia Williams (Katie Jarvis) lives with her single mother Joanne (Kierston Wareing) and younger sister Tyler (Rebecca Griffiths) in a run-down, East London council estate. From one of, if not the greatest director working today MICHAEL HANEKE. Winner of the 2012 Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

AMAZON REVIEW
An elegant elderly couple faces the ultimate challenge in Austrian auteur Michael Haneke's carefully controlled, emotionally devastating Amour. Retired music professors Anne (Emmanuelle Riva, Hiroshima Mon Amour) and Georges (Jean-Louis Trintignant, The Conformist) enjoy their last good day together when they attend the concert of a former student (pianist Alexandre Tharaud as himself). The next day, Anne freezes at the kitchen table for a few minutes, after which she goes on as if nothing happened. Georges encourages her to see a doctor, who recommends surgery, but the operation fails, and she suffers a second stroke that paralyses her right side. Georges copes the best he can with help from neighbours and home-care workers, but Anne rapidly loses the ability to function on her own, even to communicate, which upsets their daughter, Eva (Isabelle Huppert, Haneke's The Piano Teacher). Georges' stoic acceptance elicits praise from onlookers, but Haneke reveals the cracks in his façade: the nightmares, the paranoia (his encounters with a persistent pigeon), and a series of actions that blur the lines between madness and compassion; though there's no reason to suggest the two can't coexist. Riva and Trintignant, among the finest actors France has produced, couldn't be better, but this is a difficult film to enjoy in any conventional sense--the word appreciate might be more appropriate--since Anne's infirmity obscures the love that binds these people to each other and becomes a sort of invisible monster, making Amour one of the more chilling horror stories in recent memory. --Kathleen C.
